If I did not enroll in a health insurance plan during Open Enrollment, what options do I have?

Not many. If you want a plan from the Marketplace, you will need to show that you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). SEPs trigger for a variety of reasons, but moving, losing other coverage, or having a baby are the most common ones.

Medicaid & CHIP are state run programs that offer enrollment to eligible individuals year round. Some states also offer coverage outside of open enrollment.

  • Basic Health Programs in New York, Minnesota, and Oregon
  • The ConnectorCare program in Massachusetts (but only if you have not enrolled before)
  • The Covered Connecticut program allows eligible applicants to enroll at anytime.
