I am going to college. Do I need my own health insurance plan or can I use my parents?

Probably not. You can stay on your parent’s health insurance plan up until you are age 26. Depending on the type of health insurance plan your parent’s have, you may be able to stay on through the end of the year that you turn 26.

You can read more about those specifics here.

What needs to be considered is the type of plan that your parents have and how networks are covered. If your parents have a plan through the Marketplace, and that plan is an HMO, the coverage may not extend to where you are going to school. As such, while you can stay on the plan, that plan may not cover you where you need it.
