Does my health insurance work overseas?

Most likely no.

Medicare does offer some help for emergencies, and additional coverage can be had with certain Medigap plans, but ACA plans, most private health plans, and Medicaid offer zero coverage when out side of the US.

Plans that do offer coverage work on a reimbursement basis. This means that you will need to front the bill and then submit the receipts to your insurance company to be paid back.

The best way to ensure health coverage while overseas is to purchase a standalone travel insurance plan. These can be had for pennies on the dollar and last only as long as you need them to, so you’re not paying for a policy longer than is required.
